Wee Faeries Alight on Old Lyme Lettersburg Junction Homesteads

The Florence Griswold Museum’s annual outdoor exhibition, Wee Faerie Village will take place from Saturday, Sept. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 28 at the museum, 96 Lyme Street, Old Lyme.

This family-friendly walking trail features 32 faerie-sized homes handcrafted by artists, designers, and faerie-aficionados including several residents of the Connecticut shoreline and Connecticut River valley:

• The Letter D, DeeDee Charnok, Teddie Curtiss, and Gay Thorn, Essex

• The ! Symbol, Betsy Himmelman and Haddam-Killingworth High School students, Killingworth

• The & Symbol, Lori and Rich Lenz, Essex

• The Letter S, Pam Erickson, Ivoryton

• The Letter T, David D.J. Rau, Chester

Last year more than 15,000 visitors enjoyed the month-long event.

The theme this year is Lettersburg Junction—Wee Faerie Homesteads from A to Z and 1, 2, 3 on the grounds of museum’s 13-acre campus. Visitors will be able to follow the Directionery, a map of Lettersburg Junction, to explore the town where faeries live in 32 hand-crafted, faerie-sized houses resembling all the letters of the alphabet, as well as numbers and vowels. This annual event is ideal for visitors of all ages.

Related events include, parties, performances, book discussions, and craft activities. Many events are included in museum admission. A complete list of events is available at www.FlorenceGriswoldMuseum.org.

On Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 8 the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Faerie dance lessons begin at 11:30 a.m. At noon, Chester Fife & Drum Corps lead visitors in a parade through Wee faerie Village. Wings, crowns, tiaras, and colorful attire are encouraged. There will be other events that day as well.

Admission during the exhibition is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, $13 for students, $5 for members. Children 12 and under enter free thanks to the support of an anonymous donor. Admission includes the outdoor walking tour of the faerie village as well as the Florence Griswold House, Chadwick Studio, Rafal Landscape Center, and the Krieble Gallery with three special exhibitions.
