In the new Netflix Original romantic-comedy, Set It Up, two overworked young professionals attempt to set up their bosses in order to gain free time away from the office for themselves. Filled with a likable cast, real chemistry between the actors, and a sweet, but funny storyline, Set It Up is the most enjoyable romantic comedy that Netflix has put out as part of its original line-up to date.

Kirsten Stevens (Lucy Liu of Kill Bill and Charlie’s Angels) is a no-nonsense, hardworking sports reporter who is completely committed to her job. In fact, the only person who works harder than Kirsten herself, is her assistant Harper (Zoey Deutch of Before I Fall and Why Him?). At 25, Harper considers herself lucky to be working for Kirsten, but wishes desperately for more standard business hours that could allow her to have something of a personal life.

A few floors below Kirsten’s sprawling business office is the office of another equally dedicated professional, Rick Otis (Taye Diggs of Chicago and Rent). Rick is a venture capitalist who spends more time in his New York City office than at home, just as his 28 year old assistant, Charlie (Glen Powell of Hidden Figures and Everybody Wants Some) does, as well.

When Harper and Charlie meet unexpectedly late one night while competing to get the last of the city’s take-out options, they form a friendship over their shared professional misery. Both Harper and Charlie spend more time managing their bosses’ lives than they do living their own lives, so they hatch a plan to attempt to unite Kirsten and Rick. They believe that if Kirsten and Rick fell for one another and spent more time with each other than at work, then they, too, could spend some time living life outside of their office building.

Harper and Charlie arrange for Kirsten and Rick to get stuck together in an elevator, end up together on the Yankees’ “Kiss Cam,” and discover all of their shared interests in hopes that they will fall for each other, which they eventually do. While Harper and Charlie initially enjoy their free time, they find it challenging to have to continue to pull the strings behind the curtain of their bosses’ new relationship.

Set It Up is an enjoyable and funny romantic comedy. The characters are relatable and the circumstances are just the right balance of believable, yet fun. It is a great movie to enjoy on a lazy summer day.
