05/03/2018 12:01 AMRecently I had lunch with one of my best friend, Kirsten, who lives in Storrs. We decided to meet about half way and I suggested Modesto’s, a restaurant just north of Norwich. I hadn’t been there in years. Sometimes I am annoyed when restaurants don’t change their menus, but with Modesto Moran’s place, I could not be happier. I tried a chopped salad there for the first time, and it was even better on my recent trip than it was in the mid-’90s. And I think it was the first time I’d tasted pasta with vodka sauce, which I now make myself. Kirst and I shared that chopped salad, a special appetizer with eggplant and polenta and a pasta dish. For dessert, we loved the dulce de leche, a creamy almond-flavor pudding cake. I won’t wait long to go there again.
