Charlie Shafer of Fire in the Kitchen says the organization’s “almost-last concert for the season [is] a blast from the northern ends of the earth, which, considering the weather, seems oddly appropriate.”

Fire in the Kitchen Concerts has invited The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc to perform Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m., at North Madison Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Road, Madison.

“It’s a rare treat when three fiddlers from the far north, Norway, Sweden, and the Shetland Islands, get together and combine all three traditions into one exceptional package,” says Shafer.

Critics of classical music marvel at their skill and the complexity of the arrangements, but deep down, they have a penchant to really want to rip, he says.

“When award-winning artists from the series’ past call up insist we host these three, we listen. And we, too, were amazed,” he says. “The rhythms and tunes have an infectious, yet unusual drive to them. Fans of classical music to old-time fiddling will be in awe of the skills and compositions on display.”

As with all of Fire in the Kitchen’s concerns, there will be free Ashley’s ice cream after the show, along with an opportunity to meet and speak with the artists.

Tickets for adults are $20, and for children, high school and under, $5.
