Nibbles: A Reference Book That Reads Like a Novel

When I moved to my condo, almost four years ago, I got rid of about 90 percent of my books. Most were cookbooks. I swore I would stop buying cookbooks. I am better than I used to be, but I fool myself by pretending that many of the food books I buy are reference books. Grocery: The Buying and Selling of Food in America by Michael Ruhlman, is a reference book that reads like a novel. I read a chapter or two at a time, in between writing, meetings, cooking, and binge watching. It isn’t a tome and it mostly says nice things about grocery stores; good thing, since most of us buy most of our food in supermarkets. Once I finish the book, it will be housed on my reference shelves.
