Nibbles: Breyer’s Delights

I like ice cream, but I can buy it, toss into the freezer, and pretty much forget that it is there. Half a cup is actually enough for me, maybe with a little dribble of my own chocolate syrup. And I rarely buy bad ice cream. My feeling is if I’m going eat it, it should be worth the calories. So I only buy Haagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s in pint-size bricks.

On the other hand, most of my friends who like good ice cream think it is funny that people are really happy with just half a cup, wishing that they could eat the whole pint. So, when I noted ice cream in the end-cap freezer section at my supermarket called Halo Top ice cream at just over 200 calories for the whole pint, I froze. Really? I didn’t buy it until a few months later when I saw that Breyer’s sells its own Delights, also at just between 260 to 330 calories for the entire pint. I bought a pint of Mint Chip. I pour a bit of chocolate syrup on the pint and, although I could have eaten it all, I didn’t. It was, however, delicious. Last week I took a pint of vanilla bean and a chocolate cake to a friend’s dinner party. Everyone loved it. Maybe I will become one of those people who finishes the whole pint.
