Her position allowed her to indulge the inner voice (or “Boy” as she called him) that controlled her unwavering determination to create the environment and solitude she needed to write. She was a prolific writer who preferred dark, grisly subjects to the happier endings that were an easier sale. A fascinating read about a women of independent thinking and means who was quite ahead of her time.
