Director Alexander Payne (Election, Citizen Ruth, Nebraska) makes his venture into the sci-fi genre with his upcoming satire Downsizing starring Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Jason Sudeikis, and Kristen Wiig.

Downsizing follows Paul and Audrey Safranek (Damon and Wiig) who decide to shrink themselves into a minimalized world to abandon their stressed out lives in Omaha, Nebraska and to help save the Earth from its overpopulation problem.

The film has already scored mixed reviews out of the Telluride, Toronto, and Venice Film Festival. But it remains intriguing, with a unique premise and an exemplary cast.

Downsizing is set to come out on Friday, Dec. 22.
