Reader Recommendation; Chicken Balsamico at La Rosticceria


We ran across one of our favorite former first selectmen, Fillmore McPherson of Madison, recently. He was toting a shopping bag on the way back from the supermarket. What’s for dinner, we wanted to know. He brightened up and smiled. “Chicken Balsamico,” he said. What’s the recipe, we asked. “Get in your car, drive to Guilford, and pull into the parking lot of La Rosticceria. Go inside and buy it,” he said. Now, that’s a recipe we’re pretty sure we can follow. The little store front at 500 Village Walk, Guilford, offers a wide variety of ready-to-go lunch and dinners including Chicken Piccata, Chicken Marsala, Chicken Danielle (proscuitto, artichoke, mushroom, and white wine sauce), Chicken Puglia (roasted peppers, artichoke, olives, and white wine sauce), and Chicken Sienna (sausage, artichokes, mushroom, and white wine sauce). They also offer pasta dishes and fish, along with sandwiches and salads. And, don’t forget the cupcakes, voted “Best of Connecticut” twice by Connecticut Magazine.—Pem McNerney
