Set in 18th century England, at a time when women were unable to inherit land and had no rights, fictional character Beatrice Lacey sets out to defy the norm at all costs, in order to hold onto her beloved Wideacre Estate. Fans of Gregory (an accomplished feminist historian) will appreciate this first novel written when the author was only 28 years old. A true page turner!
