Nibbles: Everything but the Bagel

I went to Trader Joe’s with a friend a couple of weeks ago. She was willing to wander through the aisles, so I did the same. I was peering at the shelves of spices and noticed a 2.3 ounce bottle of Everything but the Bagel. How could I not buy a jar? When I got home, I took a plain bagel out of the freezer in my garage (far enough away that I have to get dressed and walk a while, thinking whether I really need a bagel or a sleeve of Girl Scout cookie mints) and let it thaw until the next day. Was that spice blend delicious? Yes it was. Made with sesame seeds, sea salt flakes, dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, black sesame seeds, and poppy seeds, it turned that bagel into something that actually tasted like a New York bagel. If you don’t want to drive all the way to Trader Joe’s, you can get that blend on the Internet from Amazon. I now have three jars of it.—Lee White
