A Practically Perfect Lunch

While passing through Guilford recently, I realized it was lunchtime, and I was famished, and so I took that as an opportunity to visit the Marketplace, at 77 Whitfield Street. The place was packed, as usual, and so I skipped the line at the deli counter and headed for the refrigerator case. There was a wide range of prepackaged offerings, including grilled shrimp with guacamole and salsa. I grabbed that, and snagged some huge macarons on the way out. There was a small table outside, where I enjoyed six good-sized grilled shrimp with the guac. Delicous. I had the salsa later, and it was fabulous as well, both fresh and zesty. The cookies also were a delight. As I ate, I noticed a sign in the window in front of me, that said “No matter where you are from, we’re glad you’re our neighbor,” intended as a sign of tolerance and welcome in English, Spanish, and Arabic. That’s how I like my neighborhoods, friendly, welcoming, and packed with great food.
