Good Neighbors

When Nancy Karas was planning her new store Willow & Birch at 36 Wall Street in Madison, she noticed Chef Paul Barron has his new place right next door. Karas loves Barron’s cooking, and so she cooked up a deal with him. She would sell his food in her new café, right in the back of her new store. So he makes an array of salads, soups, and sandwiches in the morning, and pops in her back door to deposit them in her fridge, all ready for her customers to pick out and eat in a cozy little dining area inside, or on the patio outside. So far, she says her customers are loving the fare, favoring the Chinese chicken salad, and the cilantro lime quinoa chicken in particular. Another big favorite are the cinnamon rolls, sourced from Donna Galluccio-Comeau at Big Nanny’s Bakery in Guilford. And the coffee, from Pierce Brothers is a big hit as well. I recently had the cilantro lime quinoa salad and the Fogbuster coffee from Pierce Brothers for lunch. Delicious. I’ll be back.—Pem McNerney
