In just a few weeks, the Westbrook Drum Corps, a senior fife and drum corps, will host its 58th Annual Muster, on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25 and 26. The Junior Colonials, Westbrook’s junior fife and drum corps, will officially open the Tattoo on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Several corps will then perform for the enjoyment of the spectators.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will proceed through the center of Westbrook to the Ted Lane Field on Fiske Lane. Fife and drum corps are expected from all over New England, New York, Delaware, Virginia, and Switzerland. The muster will immediately follow the parade. For people new to musters, the parade is just the beginning. The muster is an event in which each corps will then perform medleys of their choosing.

The Westbrook Boy Scout Committee will offer refreshments for sale. Vendors will be available with instruments and music.

The Westbrook Drum Corps was organized in 1910 and has been continuously active since that time. Members have performed throughout New England, New York, Virginia, along the east coast, and in Switzerland. Their music ranges from 16th century to modern patriotic marching tunes. While they do wear a modified uniform for the heat and humidity of summer, their official uniform is patterned after an artillery officer in Washington’s army.

Members rehearse each Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the building on the Town Green. New members are always welcome. For more information, visit westbrookdrumcorps.org.
