Reader Recommendation: L&E French Sunday Market Breakfast

L&E French in Chester has just launched a Sunday Market breakfast and lunch service that makes visitors feel like they’re at a Mediterranean bistro. Tapping local and regional producers (Ashlawn Farm coffee from Old Saybrook, Roberto Farm eggs from Deep River, Salem’s Mystery Farms grains), sous chef Max Loflin helms the kitchen for a Continental petit dejeuner with house-made offerings like croissants, black cherry scones, a Spanish-style potato breakfast tortilla, yogurt and granola, and an olive oil cornmeal cake with fresh blueberry preserves. The offerings are available for takeaway, too, along with L&E’s own juice sodas (the strawberry lemon soda was especially refreshing). Lunch is a selection of light Provençal-inspired dishes such as tuna with capers, roasted peppers, and olive oil on a baguette. Prices range from $4 to $12.50. Opens at 8 a.m. on Sundays.—Laura Grimmer
