Benjamin Henderson, who is currently pursuing a degree in organ performance at the Eastman School of Music in the studio of Nathan Laube, will present a concert spanning three centuries of organ music, including Bach in the 18th century, Widor in the 19th century, and Vierne and Duruflé in the 20th century.

The concert will be held on Wednesday, Aug, 9, at 7 p.m., at The Lutheran Church of Madison, 9 Britton Lane (located at the west end of the Madison Town Green).

During his high school years in Middletown, Henderson was a piano accompanist for the Middletown Public School choirs, as well as many other organizations, including Greater Middletown Chorale, the Greater Meriden Chorale, and the Wethersfield Teen Theater. In 2015, he was an organ soloist with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra at the Bushnell in Hartford. For two summers, he was the recipient of the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ Scholarship, which allowed him to study with Alan Morrison, Peter Conte, and Matthew Glandorf at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. While there, he had the opportunity to play the largest fully functioning pipe organ in the world—the Wanamaker Organ at Macy’s Department Store. In 2016, he was the recipient of the Roberta Bitgood Organ Scholarship from the New London Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

A freewill offering, which will benefit both Henderson and the church’s Music Ministry, will be gathered after his performance, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Contact the church at lcofmadison@aol.com or 203-245-4145 for further information.
