Something Else to Celebrate

Now that the Fourth of July is over, what are we going to celebrate? Christine Chesanek, the owner of Fromage Fine Foods and Coffee, 873 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook has a suggestion. Bastille Day is Friday, July 14. La Fête nationale in France, the celebration marks a critical turning point in the French Revolution. It is celebrated by French nationals and Francophiles internationally, and there are usually large celebrations in a number of American cities, including New York City, Philly, and Boston. If you want to join in, Christine recommends doing so with a macaron, which is a little bit like a cookie and a little bit like a candy. It’s made of meringue and stuffed with ganache, buttercream, or jam. Fromage has 23 flavors. Can’t decide which one to pick? Christine says start with the pistachio, her favorite, and the honey lavender, a best seller.
