06/29/2017 12:01 AMMy friend Joan said I had to see this new place in Uncasville. She hadn’t tried the food yet and wouldn’t tell me why I just had to see it.
On the way home from her house in Norwich, I found it, even without a sign. If anyone has ever seen the façade of a typical New Jersey diner, multiply that by about 20 times and you will see Oriental Bar & Grill. Outside fountains with ponds filled with koi, masonry that might boggle the eyes of Leonardo and Michelangelo, and an enormous parking lots lit by almost-two-story, chandelier-type lamps. It reminded me that when Foxwoods opened, we called it the Emerald City.
The food? Not bad and not nearly as expensive as you might think. I particularly liked the Korean-style beef ribs. I will try some of my favorites, like walnut shrimp and Peking duck (at $34.95 but sure that it would feed a hungry couple). The sushi looked good.
