Ticked Off? Get the Lowdown on Ticks

Everyone is nervous about ticks this summer.

Scott Williams, Ph.D. of North Guilford will present Ticked Off: The Lowdown on Ticks on Wednesday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Guilford Free Public Library, 67 Park Street, Guilford.

This is the third presentation of the Guilford Conservation Commission’s Living with Wildlife Speaker Series.

Williams’s presentation will be rich in local information on ticks, invasive plants, and tick management strategies. He will cover various tick-borne diseases and the role that deer and small rodents play in the disease life cycle. He will also cover a five-year USDA study that is being launched this summer in Guilford.

Williams has spent 10 years researching small mammals throughout Connecticut. Williams investigates blacklegged tick abundance and tick-borne disease prevalence in different habitat types. He is author on more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications. Connecticut educated at Connecticut College, Yale, and the University of Connecticut Williams is a research scientist in the Department of Forestry and Horticulture at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven. Williams and his wife Sarah live in North Guilford.
