Very Local Beef

A friend who visited Forte’s Gourmet Market recently came back with a report of a locally sourced, naturally raised, free range beef. We checked it out and sure enough, Salt Marsh Farm raises Hereford beef who happily eat grass and hay from the farm on Leete’s Island in Guilford, pumpkins and pressed apples from Bishop’s Orchards in Guilford, and brewer’s grain from the Thimble Island Brewery in Branford. It doesn’t get much more local than that. The farm sells beef by the entire animal or by the half side, and cuts that include tenderloin, burger patties, beef shank, London broil, stew meat, short ribs, heart, liver, and tongue. In addition to Forte’s, 1153 Boston Post Road, Guilford, Salt Marsh Farm also sells to La Cuisine, a restaurant at 750 East Main Street, Branford; Bishop’s Orchard Farm Market, 1355 Boston Post Road, Guilford; and What’s Cookin, a restaurant at 78 Boston Post Road, Madison. For more information about the farm products, call Jonathan Page at 860-304-5299 or visit www.saltmarsh.farm.
