06/08/2017 12:01 AMClinton Historical Society’s Captain Elisha White House and The Adam Stanton House will open for free tours on Saturday, June 10 as part of the statewide Connecticut Open House Day. Both properties will be open from noon to 4 p.m. A house tour will be available of the oldest (1750) brick building on the Boston Post Road, the Captain Elisha White House, affectionately known as Old Brick, located at 103 East Main Street. The tour will include a look at period antiques, paintings, and extensive perennial gardens containing heirloom plants. The Buell Tool Museum also will be open on the campus, a treasure trove of antique tools that demonstrate how work was done more than 200 years ago. There also will be a recently completed 18th century smokehouse moved from the 1710 Williams House.
Also open will be the late 18th century Adam Stanton House & General Store Museum located a short walk down from Old Brick at 63 East Main Street. The Stanton House showcases the life of a prominent merchant in a well preserved home and early shop. All furnishings within the home belonged to the Stanton family and give a sense of what life truly was like in early times. Knowledgeable docents will guide visitors through time and bring the Stanton family story to life.
