Mayer, Sharrock, Weyman Exhibiting Work in New Show

The Journey Starts Here, mixed media, Juliet Sharrock

Body Karma Studio Gallery featured Abstract Artists for July-August

Members of the Clinton Art Society (CAS) will exhibit paintings at Body Karma Studio Gallery, 5 East Main Street, Clinton. CAS Artists Tom Mayer, Juliet Sharrock, and Cheri Weymann will display their paintings Friday, June 16 through Friday, Aug. 18.

A retired Berlin art teacher for 36 years, Mayer taught all grade levels from K through 12 including special education and adult education. He now teaches a senior painting group in Florida three months of the year. Mayer has exhibited paintings in New England and Florida. Having won may awards for his plein air landscapes, Mayer is currently working on a series of paintings using only hard-edged geometric shapes, choosing colors that will work together in a pleasing way. His goal is to create an interesting composition using improvisational shapes and colors.

A resident of Madison, Sharrock got her undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Her collage and mixed media works are inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell and Edward Hopper.

Sharrock says, “I have always been interested in creating art featuring narratives and intriguing scenarios that raise more questions than they answer. I am constantly considering the place of women in the world. My work asks if we, as women, are outside looking in or inside looking out. The answer lies with the viewers and their response to the work.”

Her work has been exhibited throughout the shoreline and is included in the Essex Art Association and Madison Art Society’s most recent exhibitions.

Weymann was born in New Haven and developed a very early passion for drawing and painting. She attended the Cechetti School of Oil Painting in her teens and went on to receive a degree in dance from Adelphi. Since then she has exhibited her art in galleries throughout Connecticut. She is a member of six art organizations and has won awards for her work in juried and member shows.

The public is invited to a champagne reception Friday, July 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. with catering by Jessica Demers, owner of Body Karma Studio.

Parking is available at the Clinton Municipal Lot behind Body Karma Studio and at the CVS parking lot across the street. For further information call Body Karma Gallery Exhibit Coordinator Joann Dongweck at 860-510-0813 or visit www.clintonartsociety.info.
