Indian Food? As You Wish

Those of us who have been craving great Indian food along the shoreline have always been well served by Darbar in Branford. And, recently, Himilaya and Shakahari opened to strong reviews in Old Saybrook. Even more recently, another new place opened at 1004 Boston Post Road in Guilford. It’s called Kamana, which roughly translates to “wish” in Nepali. I went once with a friend, and a second time with a group, and the food was wonderful both times. The service the first time was outstanding and the second time was, while not perfect, pretty impressive, given that word had gotten out, the entire place was packed at 6:30 p.m. on a Sunday night, and the parking was overflowing into a nearby lot. The old standards including chicken tikka and the naan bread were skillfully executed, the kebabs were a sizzling wonder, and there is a wide variety of dal, including the house special kamana dal, redolent of ginger and other spices. If you’re wishing for great Indian food, you’re in luck.
