Yet the characters of Olivia Pope and Mellie Grant still find themselves negotiating the double binds female political figures have historically faced that pit their public vs. private lives, the personal vs. the political, and feminine vs. masculine.
Quinnipiac University’s Professor and Chair of Media Studies Lisa Burns will discuss how Scandal reflects some of the real-life challenges still facing women in politics, while also offering positive representations of female political power. The discussion will be Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the North Haven Library, 17 Elm Street, North Haven.
