04/27/2017 12:01 AMLast week I had a 9:30 doctor’s appointment in Middletown, a biannual checkup I look forward to because I love my food-loving doctor and the entire staff. After, I drove to the Middlesex Hospital’s satellite office to get my blood work. By that time I was starving and thinking about getting a hamburger. I am always in the mood for a burger and decided to stop at Christy’s in Westbrook. I looked at the menu and ordered a grilled cheese sandwich on multigrain bread with avocado and tomato. Never, never had I tasted a better sandwich. The grilled bread; hot, gooey cheese; and thick slices of tomatoes and avocado created such a mountain of lusciousness that I had to use a fork and knife to eat it all. Where did they get those fresh tomatoes and the perfectly ripened avocado? With the sandwich, I chose a cup of obviously housemade potato salad. I can’t wait to go back.—Lee White
