Free Viewing of Healing Voices Documentary with Bake Sale, Discussion

On Tuesday, May 2 there will be a free screening of Healing Voices, sponsored by Yale University School of Medicine, the state Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, and the Dignity and Advocacy Network (DAN).

Healing Voices is a feature length documentary that explores experiences commonly labeled as psychosis or mental illness by telling the stories of people working to overcome these extreme mental states, and integrate these experiences into their lives in a meaningful way. The film follows these people over five years and interviews experts and others familiar with the history of psychiatry and the medical model of mental health treatment.

Following the film will be a global LiveStream panel Q&A from the New Haven location with Producer/Director PJ Moynihan, subject and Co-producer Oryx Cohen, and members of the local mental health and peer support communities.

The movie and discussion will explore alternative approaches that facilitate recovery with this new paradigm of care for those experiencing unusual perceptions such as voices and visions.

For more information, visit healingvoicesmovie.com. The doors will open with a bake sale at 6 p.m. at Yale School of Medicine’s Harkness Auditorium, 333 Cedar Street, New Haven.
