Cocktail Cookies

I don’t normally associate black ice with something I want to serve guests, but I think I’ll make an exception for some cookies I spied recently at Star Fish Market, 650 Village Walk, Guilford. Made by Savor Fine Foods, a micro bakery out of Thomaston, the handmade Black Ice cookies are made with chocolate, lemon, and Salemme hot pepper. What is Salemme hot pepper? Glad you asked. Sold by a company out of Milford, it “resembles the Cabai Burong of Malaysia and the Kahari of India, however it is truly unique.” In addition to Savor’s Black Ice cookies, it is also featured at 116 Crown restaurant and Caseus Fromagerie Bistro, both in New Haven. Star Fish sells several other kidns of the Savor cookies as well, including Nicasia, which has rosemary, lemon, and smoked apple wood sea salt. It’s supposed to go great with wines, particularly white wines, “like a Gavi, Jura, or Pinot Grigiot,” Savor says. Also on sale that day was the Krakatoa, which features dark cocoa, ground cardamom, coffee liquer, orange oil, and vanilla. It’s supposed to be perfect with champagne. Find out more about the cookies at www.savorfinefoods.com.
