Nibbles: Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale

It was the first glorious day in April and I decided to take a drive toward Old Saybrook. I took exit 67 and had a hankering for belly clams. For me, spring is only when it is close to 70 degrees, sunny, and I have my first Dairy Queen cone (twist) and some belly clams. I kept on driving until I got to Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale. Was it incredible? Sort of, but at $24 plus tip, for around nine bellies, some onion rings, a couple of forks full of cole slaw, and an iced coffee, that is pretty expensive. Maybe it will be cheaper in a month or so. By the time I left, there was a line out the door. Driving home, Edd’s was busy, as was Johnny Ad’s. I think Fred’s Shanty is open, too. And I’m going to check with Old Saybrook’s Mike Urban, a food and traveler writer, and author of Lobster Shacks: A Road-Trip Guide to New England’s Best Lobster Joints, for his favorite lobster roll on the shoreline.
