Gorey started his journey in publishing as a book cover designer, and some hundreds of jackets later has become one of America’s most beloved illustrators. Amphigorey collectors will revel in this compilation of his classic colors and crosshatch drawings dating from 1953 to 2000—all ominously beautiful (or beautifully ominous?). My favorite remains The Utter Zoo.
