Reader Recommendation: Shell & Bones Oyster Bar & Grill

Janet Brown Connolly, inspired by New Haven Restaurant Week, recently visited Shell & Bones Oyster Bar & Grill on the New Haven waterfront at 100 South Water Street, New Haven, and had a great dinner. She says the food was “killer,” as was the view of the harbor. “As we ate, an American coot swam nearby and made us happy,” she says. Of course it would, as Connolly and her husband, Jerry, own and operate The Audubon Shop, the birding store in Madison. Connolly had the grilled sirloin tips, with a celeriac potato gratin, and caramelized onions and mushrooms. Restaurant week is over, but since the executive chef at Shell & Bones, which has been ranked “very good” by The New York Times and as one of the Best New Restaurants by Connecticut Magazine, is Arturo Franco-Camacho, any night is probably a good night to check it out. Franco—formerly of Roomba, Bespoke, the Surburban, and Tacuba Taco Bar—also is working his magic across town as executive chef at Geronimo Tequila Bar and Southwest Grill at 271 Crown Street, New Haven.
