04/13/2017 12:01 AMThree members of the Clinton Art Society (CAS) will be exhibiting paintings at Body Karma Studio Gallery, 5 East Main Street, Clinton. CAS Artists Liz Egan, Cheryl Sorensen, and Jim Durkin will display their paintings Friday, April 14 through Friday, June 16.
An art teacher at Westbrook Middle School since 2004, Egan is a 1981 graduate of Purchase College where she received a B.F.A. in visual arts/painting. She received her M.S. in student personnel administration in 1991 from Buffalo State College. Egan has received numerous awards for her work. Egan is also known for her work on sets for Clinton Family Theater, Morgan Musicals, and Westbrook Middle School Drama Club. Her recent work on Oh Horrors! It’s Murder transformed the first floor of the building into an Egyptian museum. Egan was recently elected president of Clinton Art Society after longtime heads Joanne McCarty and Barbara J. Helander retired and were appointed lifetime members.
A Madison resident and retired sales and marketing executive, Durkin holds a degree in marketing from San Diego State University. Recently he has taken classes at Paier College of Fine Art with John Falato. His wife and his sisters painted, so upon retirement he embarked on a new career.
“I enjoy nature and decided to try painting with the encouragement of friends and relatives,” he says.
Durkin regularly participates in the Winter Art Studio, the Painters Studio and the Watercolor Studio. Durkin has recently taken on the position of treasurer of Clinton Art Society.
The public is invited to a champagne reception Friday, April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. with catering by Jessica Demers, Director of Body Karma Studio.
