A Better Bloody Mary Mix

At one recent East Haven Chamber Business After Hours, I met local resident Bob Mancini and we got to talking about his S&M Bloody Mary Mix. I assumed, correctly, that he developed this because he was unsatisfied with other mixes. After a quick taste test, sans alcohol, I agreed his was better than the others. The clincher—it had substantially less sodium than most mixes and you wouldn’t even know it. Bob gave me a bottle for the office, and suggested we try it with cucumber vodka, along with ice, and a celery stick. The results? Everyone who tried it at work enjoyed them as much as finding out there was a Bloody Mary bar upon entering the office (this is not an everyday occurrence for us!). Some said it was as good as their homemade versions, and that it had the right amount of horseradish. I found it perfectly spicy and substantial. And some of my coworkers who prefer theirs decorated with shrimp, bacon, or other fancy garnishes didn’t even mention that anything was missing. Want to try it? You can find it in Branford at Coastal Wine & Spirits, Shoreline Prime Meats &Deli, Gabel’s Wine Shop, and US1 Wine & Liquor Store. In East Haven, it is sold at Pathway Liquors and Lighthouse Liquors .—Robyn Collins-Wolcott
