Nibbles: Hartford Giant Grinders

After reading cookbooks at the Book Barn, the massive used book store on Main Street in Niantic, my stomach told me it was time for lunch. As I drove toward Route 161, I noticed Hartford Giant Grinders. People had told me it was great so I decided to order a grinder, eat there, and read at the same time. The place is tiny, and there are only three tables. After some thought, I ordered a small eggplant and was told they were out of eggplant and a few other choices, too. Instead, I ordered a sausage and pepper. It was delicious. In a crispy roll (they get them from New York), toasted, were at least two large sweet sausages, sliced horizontally, lots of red bell pepper, very good provolone, and just enough marinara so you can eat the grinder using both hands. As I left, around 12:45 p.m., all three of the tables were full and there were at least a dozen people waiting for their orders. Can’t wait to go back.
