Nibbles: Wick Fowler’s 2-Alarm Chili Kit

The first time I ever used Wick Fowler’s 2-Alarm Chili Kit was in 1971. I had just begun to learn to cook, the beginning of my long still-ongoing culinary journey. For example, the first time I ever made a Thanksgiving dinner for my little family, I ordered gravy and stuffing from a supermarket in Houston, Texas. The gravy was white. That is what gravy looks like in Houston. A few months later, still in Houston, I found this chili kit at Weingarten’s. Evidently real Texans use Wick Fowler’s kit. All you need to add is meat and, if you would like, beans. These days I often make my own chili, but during the recent snowstorm, I used a package of Wick Fowler’s. I do add fresh onions, regular ground meat, and about two-thirds of the ground pepper packet. While it was perking, I made white rice in my rice cooker. I ate this incredible chili for a couple of lunches with my neighbors. I always have a package of Wick Fowler’s in my pantry.
