The First Congregational Church of Madison welcomes pianist Misuzu Tanaka for the next concert in the Music at the Meetinghouse concert series on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.. The program opens with Bach’s Italian Concerto, which showcases Bach’s ability to feature the whole orchestral range of the keyboard instrument in the 18th century. Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 2 portrays many dark personae, culminating in a sarcastic, perpetual dance-like fourth movement. The second half of the program opens with Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor, and concluding the recital are a selection of Preludes by Rachmaninoff, a concert pianist in his own right who brings out the full range of the fully developed keyboard instrument of the 20th century with lush melodies and powerful chords.

Hailed by international press as a pianist “who dispatched everything with both dizzying speed and sensitivity” (Today’s Zaman, Turkey) and for her “exceptionally high technical level” (General-Anzeiger, Bonn, Germany), Tanaka has established herself as an artist of individuality with a rare combination of poetic sensitivity and breathtaking virtuosity. She has performed in prestigious concert venues throughout the world, from the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and Mozart’s Museum at Villa Bertramka in Prague to Alice Tully Hall in New York. Tanaka is a respected regular performer for Music from the Frederick Collection, a leading North-American venue for performance on historical instruments.

Tickets are $10 available at the door. For more information, visit www.fccmadison.org or call Nathan Bayreuther at 203-245-2739, ext. 21.
