Fifty Years of Travel Drawings and Memories

The Guilford Free Library will host renowned architect Peter Woerner for an afternoon signing of his debut work in sketches and watercolors, Odyssey: Fifty Years of Travel Drawings and Memories, on Tuesday Feb. 28,at 7 p.m.

In a time of Flickr, Instagram, and digital imagery of all sorts, the quick travel sketches in this book speak to a different sense of immediacy. Reflecting upon the responsiveness of the human hand and eye, these line drawings and watercolors are a timely reminder that these, too, can be reactive, instantaneous, precise.

Since his first trip to Cuba at the age of 15, Woerner has traveled in more than 50 countries. He received his B.A. and M Arch from Yale University and attended the University of Paris. Having established his architectural and building practice, Peter Kurt Woerner & Associates, in New Haven in 1975, he has made a point to satisfy his wanderlust by visiting at least one foreign country every year, recording his experiences through drawings, watercolors, and writing.

He has been the recipient of four AIA Honor Awards, and has been honored as a fellow of the AIA. He was named by Town & Country magazine as one of the top 50 residential architects in the U.S. His work has been published in a variety of national and international publications including Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Global Architecture, Metropolis, House and Garden, and House Beautiful. He has taught at Yale University and divides his time between Guilford and West Cornwall, Connecticut; South Londonderry, Vermont; and Tuscany.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Guilford Free Library at 203-453-8282.
