Horse and Carriage Rides, Ice Carvings, Art Galleries, and More for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day will be celebrated a few days early in New Haven on Sunday, Feb. 12 with free downtown New Haven horse & carriage rides, ice carving demonstrations, and photo opportunities with Yale University’s mascot Handsome Dan XVIII. Both the Yale University Art Gallery and Yale Center for British Art will be open with free admission.

The schedule of events for Sunday, Feb. 12, from noon to 4 p.m. include:

Noon to 4 p.m. Free horse and carriage rides in downtown New Haven. Pick-up locations are 1000 Chapel Street, across from the New Haven Info Center, and 268 York Street, across from GANT.

1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ice carving demonstration of lovebirds with hearts, in front of L’Occitane en Provence and Wave Gallery, at 1046 Chapel Street.

2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ice carving demonstration of Yale Mascot Handsome Dan XVIII with an appearance from Handsome Dan himself (2:30-3:30) at Broadway Island, 56 Broadway (across J.Crew, Apple and Lou Lou).

New Haven’s surface parking lots offer the most competitive parking rates in the city and are located adjacent to shops and restaurants at 56 Broadway, 40 Dixwell Avenue, 255 Crown Street, or 161 York Street. Also, the City of New Haven offers free on-street parking on Sundays.
