Shoreline Arts Association Names Shoreline’s Top Talent

In 1982 Shoreline Arts Alliance established its scholarship awards to encourage and recognize high school juniors and seniors from the shoreline region who are outstanding in their art discipline. This program, the only one of its kind in Connecticut, recognizes the six art disciplines of creative writing, dance, instrumental music, vocal music, theater, and visual arts.

Professionals in each of the six categories judge and select the winners and special recognition awardees. The winners receive a $1,000 cash award and both the winners and special recognition students are paired with a mentor in the respective art disciplines who meets with the students and provides insight and guidance regarding the business of the arts.

The 2017 awardees:

Creative Writing: Winner: Brielle Cayer, junior-Middletown High School

Special Recognition: Ana Blanchet, senior-Guilford High School

Dance: Winner: Emma Randolph, senior-North Branford High School/Educational Center for the Arts/New Haven Ballet

Special Recognition: Ellie Wiese (Old Lyme) junior-Lyme/OldLyme High School and Eastern Connecticut Ballet

Instrumental Music: Winner: Andrea Boskovic, senior-Guilford High School — Violin

Special Recognition: Terra Burgoyne (Cromwell), senior-home schooled and Neighborhood Music School – Lever Harp

Vocal Music: Winner: Clementine Wurzbach (Killingworth), senior-Haddam/Killingworth High School

Special Recognition: Shailagh Maher junior-Guilford High School

Theatre: Winner: Erika Klaskin (Madison), junior-Daniel Hand High School

Special Recognition: Clementine Wurzbach (Killingworth), senior-Haddam/Killingworth High School

Visual Arts: Winner: William Bennett (Madison), junior-Daniel Hand H.S,

Special Recognition: Alex Carbo (East Haddam), senior-Nathan Hale Ray High School

A special showcase and awards presentation will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m, in the performance space at Evergreen Woods Senior Living Community, 88 Notch Hill Road, North Branford. The showcase is free and open to the public.
