Artists of Gallery One Present Unintended Conversations

Over, under, in and out, T. Willie Raney

Unintended Conversations, an exhibition by the Artists of Gallery One, identifies connections among a group of works and is hung to create a dialogue where the pieces speak to each other and the gallery environment in which they are hung. The exhibit will run from Saturday, Feb. 11 to Saturday, March 18 at the River Street Gallery at Fairhaven Furniture, 72 Blatchley Avenue, New Haven.

More than 50 works will be on display beginning with the opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. with music by Jazz Circle.

Both abstract and representational works are hung in close proximity to each other to illuminate aspects of each. The works interact with each other through elements that guide both abstraction and representation, such as relationships among color, line, form, and shape as well as the subtler aspects of subject matter. The resulting energy speaks in ways complementary to that originally intended by the individual artists.

The Artists of Gallery One, also known as Gallery One, is a community of artists whose common bond is a commitment to each artist’s individual voice and evolution. Each artist represents a different background and tradition that is clearly visible in the art. Unique images arise from how each artist interprets the world and works with his or her materials. At a Gallery One exhibition, viewers are as likely to find an artist’s careful rendering of a subject caught in a particular light as they are to encounter a wholly expressive gestural depiction of a figure. Next to these might be a work whose objectives appear to be solely material and procedural or referencing text, imaginary worlds or more abstract aspects of life. The collective body of work plays both against and with each other’s art creating a unique conversation about how we respond to our world.

The gallery will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5. It is closed on Tuesdays.
