Call for High School Artists for Juried Art Competition, Exhibition


The Shoreline Arts Alliance will hold the 33rd annual juried competition and exhibition of student art, Future Choices 2017 from Wednesday, Feb. 15 to Tuesday, March 7 at the Sill House Gallery of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The artists’ reception and awards presentation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. with awards being presented at 3:45 p.m.

The co-chairpersons for this competition and exhibition are Kathleen Bidney Singewald, Jackie Fastaia, and Karen Recor.

This competition and exhibition are open to all high school students in grades 9 to 12 who live or attend school in these Connecticut towns represented by Shoreline Arts Alliance: Branford, Chester, Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haven, East Hampton, East Lyme, Essex, Guilford, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Madison, Middlefield, Middletown, North Branford, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland, Salem, and Westbrook. Home schooled students and boarding students are also invited to participate in this competition and exhibition.

Students interested in submitting work for this show should contact their high school art teacher or the Shoreline Arts Alliance at 203-453-3890 or donita@shorelinearts.org.

Submissions will be accepted on Wednesday through Friday, Feb. 8, 9, and 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sill House Gallery of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, 84 Lyme Street, Old Lyme. Anyone unable to drop off on these dates should contact Shoreline Arts Alliance to make other arrangements. Students may submit up to three works of art. The submission fee is $5 per piece.

In 2016, Shoreline Arts Alliance presented $2,500 in cash awards and Lyme Academy College granted more than $600,000 in scholarships and continuing education awards.
