Why Should Kids Have All The Fun?

Ciao Bella, at 698 Boston Post Road, Madison is carrying sweets and treats made by Sugarfina, a company started when its owners, while watching the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, asked themselves, “Why should kids have all the fun?” That question led to the creation of a wide array of delectable treats, including their signature line of champagne and cocktail candy. The Champagne Bears, Bubbly Bears, Peach Bellinis, and Pale Ale Pints are imported from Germany. The Champagne Bubbles, Martini Olive Almonds, and Maple Bourbon Caramels are made in the United States. The company also makes Bento Boxes with combinations of some of the favorites. Some of the candies, including the Limoncello Cordials, have a tiny bit of alcohol, in this case the Italian liqueur made from lemons, but most of the candy is non-alcoholic, while at the same time designed to mimic the good stuff, with a sweet twist. Janice Brigualio, one of Ciao Bella’s co-owners, says the candies have been a big hit since she started stocking them in the fall. “Sales have been great,” she says. “We sold out of the Limincello and the Rose.” Flavors at Ciao Bella vary according to what’s in stock, but a recent selection included Birthday Cake Caramels, Gingerbread Men, Watermelon Slices, Marshmallow S’mores, along with some of the champagne and cocktail collection. Her favorite? She says she has given up sugar, but sometimes makes an exception for these candies. “Champagne Bubbles are my favorite,” she says. Mine is the Peach Bellini.
