The Spectrum Gallery and Store in Centerbrook is finishing up an existing exhibit, announcing a new exhibit opening later this month, and is also offering a series of art programs for children and adults.

The Embellishment and Ornamentation holiday show closes Sunday, Jan. 8.

A new exhibit, Follow the Line, opens Thursday, Jan. 20 and runs through Friday, March 3.

“Line is one of the building blocks of all art. The famous painter, Paul Klee said ‘A line is a dot that went for a walk,’ expressing the idea of the movement from one point to the other, which creates the line,” the gallery says in a prepared release. “This show features drawings, prints, representational and abstract paintings, and sculptures where materials are bent and shaped, pattern making and the digital arts. Images will feature lines in all of its colorful or monochromatic permutations, including horizontal, vertical, diagonal, zigzagged, curved, freeform, thick, thin, light, or dark.

“It can be precise, straight, free-flowing, curved, outlines, or lines made up of dots, drips, dashes or surfaces of color.”

The opening reception is Friday, Jan. 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Spectrum Gallery, 61 Main Street, Centerbroook.

In addition, the gallery also is offering children’s art programs for children from 9 to 11 from late January through early March. Adult art classes are offered as well, including a beginner oil studio, a beginner watercolor studio, and an acrylic winter painting studio.
