The Slavic Soul: Music for Cello and Piano

Music at the Meetinghouse presents the California-based Brosseau-Tacchia Duo performing two works of the great Russian composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff: Vocalise, and the Sonata in G Minor, Op. 19, for cello and piano, as well as the Variations on a Slavic Theme by the Czech composer, Bohuslav Martinu. The concert will be Sunday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. There is a pre-concert talk at 3:15 p.m., and a reception following the concert. The concert will be performed at the First Congregational Church, 26 Meetinghouse Lane, Madison.

Michele Brosseau-Tacchia, cello, and Michael Tacchia, piano, have performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Mexico, and are renowned for their in-depth interpretations of the repertoire for cello and piano.

This is the 13th annual Roslyn Young Memorial Concert. The Roslyn Young Memorial was founded by Young’s family to honor her love of music by offering an annual classical music concert. A Guilford native, Young received her early training in violin at the Neighborhood Music School. Her musical studies took her to Austria, where she earned her diploma in violin and viola at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Young’s career was based in the New York area, where she performed on viola and baroque viola in numerous ensembles and summer music festivals, including the Connecticut Early Music Festival. Young died tragically of cancer at the age of 46.
