Renowned Fiddle Player Gives Clinic Oct. 13

Eastman Strings Head Clinician and professional multi-instrumentalist Patrick Clark leads an Eastman Bowed Instrument Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 13 in the Nathanael B. Greene Community Center's Whitfield Room (32 Church Street, Guilford). A private session for Guilford and Madison public school teachers will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m.; Guilford and Madison public school students' session will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Students should bring their instrument and a collapsible music stand; music will be provided by teachers ahead of time.

Free tickets will be mailed to students by the Madison Music Center (MMC); the first group of tickets (capacity is 140) will go to students renting from MMC. The balance of the tickets will be given to Guilford and Madison public school teachers to be distributed at their discretion. Some participating students will be part of Whiz Kids and The Shoreline Youth Symphony. Students should see their teachers for free tickets.

Children must be dropped off at the Greene Center at the back door at 1:45 p.m. Parents must come inside to pick up their children at 3:35 p.m.; no child will be allowed to leave unless escorted by a parent.

Clark is a professional fiddle/utility player (mandolin, guitar, vocal). By the age of 18, he had held the concert master position in nine different orchestras. He's won county fiddle championships, including the Four Corner States Fiddle Championship and the Arizona State Fiddle Championship. While in high school, he performed with the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Symphony Orchestra; he enrolled in NAU and graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's in violin performance. While a freshman at NAU, he was hired to perform with American Idol contestant Josh Gracin. Since then, he has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and has toured and/or performed with artists including Darius Rucker, Big and Rich, Sara Evans, and others. He has also appeared on numerous TV shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and David Letterman. He is a Suzuki-trained violin teacher (through book four) and has been teaching private lessons in violin and fiddle for more than 10 years. In addition, he's written Fiddle 4 Every Level.
