They don't call it Sunset Grille for nothing.

Water's Edge resort's popular outdoor bar and grill offers a sweeping view of Long Island Sound, and, if you're there for the magic hour, the setting sun over the sparkling waves. By 6 p.m. on most summer nights, the patio area and surrounding tables are filled with shoreline locals and visitors who settle in for cool sea breezes, live music, nosh and cocktails, and, of course, the view.

Naturally, the new management team at Water's Edge Resort & Spa would like to accommodate as many visitors as possible for the daily party out on the patio and commenced renovations on the outdoor bar area this spring. An expanded patio and new six-sided railed-in bar will offer at least twice the seating, and the revised menu now includes some local flavor—think lobster rolls and other local bounty from the sea, alongside burgers and other pub fare.

Those visitors who prefer less breeze with their dinner will find changes happening in the resort's main restaurant, as well. What was once The Restaurant at Water's Edge is now Dattilo Fine Italian, named after Water's Edge owner Michael Dattilo, according to Director of Food & Beverage David Donnelly. The restaurant's menu takes its inspiration from Dattilo's heritage and offers a range of classic and modern Italian dishes. So while you'll find standbys like gnocchi on the menu, the pasta will be served with, say, flash fried Kalettes, a "new" veggie hybrid of Brussels sprouts and broccoli, or, your side of polenta will be infused with soft goat cheese to excellent effect. As the seasons change, head chef Joseph Marozzi will curate the menu with the best local seafood and produce available.

Well aware of its popularity, the team at Dattilo will continue to offer the resort's popular Sunday brunch.

That balance of change and tradition is what drives the resort's new management team.

Donnelly says, "Summer is such a special time in New England and we are excited to show off our new food menus and cocktail offerings, but also to show that even though we are a popular resort our service is responsive and tailored for the individual, couple, or family."
