Applications are now available for scholarships and no-interest loans for Guilford residents seeking job training, continuing education programs, college, or graduate school from the Guilford Rotary Club Memorial Educational Fund. Forms are available on the website www.guilfordctrotary.org (click on "Memorial Ed Fund") and at several in-town locations. Submission deadline is May 1.

"Since its founding the fund has awarded more than $225,000 to about 230 Guilford residents to help pay for their training and educational needs," said Michael Sinclair, president of the Fund. "As the fund grows, our objective is to help more people in the community achieve educational and vocational goals."

Members of the Guilford Rotary Club established The Memorial Educational Fund in 1966 as a non-profit, tax-free organization. It is supported by individual donations and Rotary fundraising events such as the Guilford Rotary Club Frosty 5K New Year's Day road race and LobsterFest. Rotarians foster community service and consider candidates' character development, a sincere regard for fellow citizens, and continuing improvement in academic achievement in making awards. Applicants must be Guilford residents, show potential leadership, and exhibit a genuine concern for the well-being of others; they should also demonstrate the ability to deal positively with adversity such as financial hardships, physical or mental handicaps, family tragedy, or personal disappointments.

Application forms are available at the following Guilford locations: Guilford Social Services at the Greene Community Center; Bishop's Farm Market; Guilford Free Library; Women & Family Life Center (96 Fair Street); the office of Wayne Staschke (2415 Boston Post Road, Unit 14); and the Guilford High School Guidance office. Applications must be received by May 1. Interviews will be conducted in May and awards made shortly thereafter.
