Girls' Hoops Loses to RHAM in Class L Tourney
The North Haven girls' basketball team saw its season come to an end with an 82-51 defeat at RHAM in Hebron in the first round of the Class L State Tournament on Feb. 24. The Indians, who were making their first state tourney appearance since 2008, finished with a record of 8-13 after winning no games last winter. North Haven was seeded 27th and 6th-seeded RHAM improved to 19-2.
Fencing
North Haven saw five fencers earn All-State honors at the Individual State Championships at Hopkins on March 2.
Li Sun took third in boys' foil, Julia Dujalski was third in girls' epée, and Reagan Fitzgerald finished fourth in girls' foil for First Team distinction. Talia Gallagher took sixth in girls' epée and Amelia Hoyt placed seventh in girls' foil to make the Second Team.
Indoor Track
Matt Marcarelli threw 48-5.5 in the shot put to finish 14th at the New England Indoor Track Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on March 2. John Spencer finished 24th in the 55 hurdles prelims at 8.58 and Emi Kanyo competed in the high jump.
Boys' Swimming and Diving
Doron Rose swam to 11th place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.70 and also came in 12th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.93 to lead North Haven at the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship. The Indians scored 243.5 points to place 13th out of 16 teams with Fairfield Prep winning the meet.
Additionally for Colleen Delaney's squad, Alex Powers placed 11th in the 100 butterfly (58.16), Jimmy Pucci took 16th in the 200 freestyle (1:56.61) and was 19th in the 100 freestyle (53.45), and all three relays came in 12th place with the quartet of David Broggi, Rose, Powers, and Stefan Butler swimming 1:56.67 in the 200 medley relay; the group of Tyler Smith, Broggi, Butler, and Pucci going 1:45.73 in the 200 freestyle relay; and the 400 freestyle unit of Powers, Butler, Rose, and Pucci posting a mark of 3:45.44.
Rifle
North Haven concluded its campaign by earning a 924-722 win against Crosby, marking the Indians best score of the season and putting Brent Heidenis's squad at 6-2. North Haven's top five consisted of Caroline Bennett (192), Brendan Quinn (all time best of 189), John Quimby (185), Cory Cristante (179), and Jordan DeLucia (179).
