Rita Christopher, who writes the Person of the Week column, loves the opportunity to work on a community newspaper. She started her career as a reporter at Newsweek Magazine, and has also worked for Reader's Digest General Books, and Maclean's, Canada's Weekly Newsmagazine. Her freelance work has appeared in the New York Times, the Daily News, People magazine and newspapers throughout New England. In 2000, she reported and wrote a weekly journal on her 48-day bicycle trip across the United States covering 3,250 miles from Seattle, Washington to Washington, D.C.
