Middletown, CT (May 16, 2018) — Join members, friends and former singers of the GMChorale for a memorable Gala Celebration at the elegant and romantic Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill, 421 Wadsworth St., Middletown, on Sunday, June 10, at 4:00 p.m. This much anticipated event, a tradition in the GMChorale family, presents an opportunity to enjoy fine food and drink, meet and greet the musicians of the Chorale, hear about what’s planned for the upcoming season, take part in our annual Silent Auction Fundraiser and, of course, listen to some fine choral singing. Joseph D’Eugenio, who is now in his twentieth season as GMChorale’s Artistic Director and Conductor, will be honored at the Gala for his vision and his accomplishments in guiding the Chorale for two decades.
A delectable Gala menu is planned, complete with appetizers and a buffet dinner catered by the Aqua Turf Club, with a full-service bar. Wine and beer are included in the price of admission. The Gala will also feature a silent auction of items, including a week at a Maine cottage and a special weekend in Stockbridge (MA), with Tanglewood tickets. In addition to tickets to the Illusionists at Waterbury’s Palace Theater, there will be tickets to the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, lawn tickets to the Talcott Mountain summer series of the Hartford Symphony, as well as tickets to a Yard Goats game. Framed artwork from Ursel’s Web in Middletown will be offered for auction. Passes to the Peabody Museum in New Haven, the Norman Rockwell Museum and the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, New Britain Museum of American Art, and to Kid City in Middletown and the CT Science Center in Hartford will be offered. Finally, there will be many specialty theme baskets - perfect for gift shopping -- being auctioned as part of the major fund-raising event of the Chorale’s concert season.

Under Maestro D’Eugenio’s leadership, the 80-voice GMChorale has commissioned and premiered new choral works by leading composers including Gwyneth Walker, Eugenie Rocherolle, Peter Niedmann, Colin Britt, Ellen Gilson Voth, Lee McQuillan and Henry Mollicone. In 2011, the GMChorale commissioned Connecticut Grammy nominee and composer, Sarah Meneely-Kyder, to create "Letter from Italy, 1944" with the libretto by her sister, poet Nancy Meneely. Under D’Eugenio’s leadership, GMChorale in 2016 established Alchemy, a new vocal chamber ensemble that performs several times each year in venues around the state.

As GMChorale enters its fifth decade, a new Mentorship Initiative, in honor of D’Eugenio’s twentieth season as Artistic Director, has been established to honor his gifts as a superb musician and talented teacher by supporting the GMChorale’s mentoring of student singers and emerging professional singers, accompanists, conductors and composers.

According to the American Choral Directors Association, “Singing is a life-long pursuit begun in childhood, nurtured in adolescence and advanced in post-secondary education, with the community choir as the culminating step in this life-long process.” In the words of Maestro D’Eugenio, “Our voices resound now, as did voices long ago, and as they will in the future. ‘Singing for a Lifetime’ is what we do, and performing great music of the centuries is what makes us sing.’”

Come and celebrate the close of GMChorale’s thrilling 2017-2018 “Resounding Voices” season and help support the Chorale in their only fund-raiser for the year! To ensure that they may continue to bring outstanding music to the community, make your reservation for June 10 by May 26 at or by calling 860-316-4854. Gala admission is $75 per person.
