The Haddam-Killingworth softball squad improved to 3-0 by winning both of its matchups last week. The Cougars claimed an 11-4 win versus North Branford and a 15-5 victory over Morgan in recent action.
H-K earned an 11-4 victory at North Branford on April 12. Junior Audrey Snyder went 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored for the Cougars. Freshman Ivy McNeil was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, and four RBI. Fellow freshman Bella Richwine went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, and two runs scored.
Sophomore Kaleigh Bodak and Richwine shared the pitching duties for H-K with Richwine picking up the win after tossing the last four innings.
Then on April 17, H-K hosted Morgan and defeated the Huskies 15-5. Freshman Cheyenne LaTouche went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs scored, and three RBI in the victory. McNeil went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, three runs, and three RBI. Richwine was 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, a triple, three runs, and two RBI.
Senior Ella McGlynn went 2-for-2 with a double, a run, and two RBI. Bodak notched the win on the mound after pitching five innings for the Cougars.
The H-K baseball team moved to 3-1 this spring after picking up wins in two of its three games. The Cougars earned wins over North Branford (4-2) and Valley Regional (8-0) before taking a loss to Morgan (4-3) last week.
On April 12, H-K hosted North Branford and prevailed by a 4-2 score. Sophomore Callen Powers earned the win on the mound while striking out 10 batters for the Cougars. Senior Alec Erskine closed out the game to get the save.
Senior Alden Halfinger had three hits with three RBI in the win. Seniors Matt Miranda and Luke DiMauro each had two hits.
Two days later, H-K claimed an 8-0 victory versus Valley Regional in a home game. Senior Alex Sheehan tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Cougars to the win. Miranda had three hits and two RBI, while DiMauro had two hits with two runs scored and an RBI to pace the offense.
On April 17, H-K took a 4-3 road loss against Morgan in a nine-inning game. The Cougars brought a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Morgan tied it with two runs in the frame and then won the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth. DiMauro had a double with an RBI for H-K.
The H-K girls’ tennis team leveled its record at 2-2 by winning two of its three matches in last week’s action. The Cougars took a loss to Old Lyme, but bounced back with victories versus East Hampton and Coginchaug.
H-K took a 7-0 defeat against Old Lyme in a road match on April 12. Two days later, the Cougars claimed a 6-1 home win versus East Hampton.
Senior Lizzy Celano earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 singles match for H-K against East Hampton. Senior Jessica Duffield claimed a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 3 singles matchup. The Cougars’ No. 1 doubles duo of seniors Kaylin Ward and Jenna Griffith triumphed by a 6-2, 6-3 score.
H-K finished off its week with a 4-3 road victory over Coginchaug on April 17.

On April 12, H-K hosted Old Lyme and dropped a 5-1 decision. Two days later, the Cougars faced East Hampton at home and lost the contest by a 7-0 score.
The H-K boys’ lacrosse squad faced off against Morgan for its first game of the season last week. On April 13, the Cougars hosted Morgan and won the matchup by the final score of 10-4.
The H-K girls’ lacrosse team began its spring campaign by playing aroad game against Morgan on April 13. The Cougars took an 11-8 loss to Morgan in their season opener.
Senior Sophie Gromola scored five goals for H-K in the game. Senior Morgan Madore scored two goals, junior Grace Cassidy had a goal with an assist, and junior Yumi Imai also had an assist in the loss. Senior goalie Jordan O’Linn made 13 saves for the Cougars.
